'I put my hands in holy water and asked Jesus to give me some boobs': Curvaceous Salma Hayek reveals body confidence crisis

She defies the size zero ideal of beauty with her vivacious curves, but Salma Hayek claims she didn't always have the womanly figure she is recognised for now.

The Mexican actress, 45, appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote new film Puss In Boots, yet conversation soon turned to her insecurities growing up.

Looking sophisticated in fishnets, together with a black and white ensemble, Hayek revealed she even turned to Christ in a bid to boost her assets.

She said: 'I was the youngest in class and all these girls were starting to get them (breasts) and I wasn’t getting anything - I was really scared.

'I was getting teased a lot because everyone was older and I was the skinny tomboy.'

Salma added: 'I went to a church that had a saint that was supposed to do a lot of miracles.

'I put my hands in the holy water and went: "Please Jesus give me some boobs."'

She described her character Kitty Softpaws as 'saucy and cheeky', saying: 'I found it hard to pronounce her name.

'I called her "Kitty Soft Porn". It was difficult at first, but now I am used to the words.'

The mother-of-one also revealed she barely spoke the language when she arrived in the US.

Salma confessed: 'I was upset by one review because it said, "Salma Hayek, bombshell".

'I thought they meant the movie bombed because it was so bad.'

Spanish co-star Antonio Banderas, 51, who also appeared on the BBC One show with Hayek, had similar difficulties during the start of his career.

He said: 'I went to London to meet the director and I could not speak English, he was talking to me and I didn’t understand a thing... then eventually I learnt a line that was the key to my career.

'I said, "I can do that," and he actually believed it.'
Banderas added: 'It is odd. I came to America without speaking the language when I was 31 so the fact they call me just for the use of my voice is weird.'

Cheryl Cole pulls out of Children In Need performance after she's struck down by 'pharyngitis'

Cheryl Cole has been struck down with pharyngitis ruling her out of a performance for Children In Need.

The singer had been due to collaborate with Gary
Barlow for Children In Need Rocks Manchester on Thursday.

But she's now been deemed too ill to perform due to her condition.

This comes as a report claims that Cheryl may be in line for a 'hero's return' to The X Factor after Barlow tried to persuade the Girls Aloud singer to rejoin the judging panel.

Barlow is desperate to bring Cheryl back on board show The X Factor and the matter was discussed when the pop stars met up last week when Cheryl visited Gary's home in Holland Park, London.

According to reports their meeting had been scheduled to discuss 'a music project'. But talk soon turned to the X Factor as Head Judge Gary pleaded with the singer to come back to the show.

A spokesperson for Cheryl said: 'Cheryl Cole has sadly had to pull out of a performance at CIN Rocks this week as she is suffering from pharyngitis.'

Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the throat or pharynx, it's the most common cause of a sore throat.

The news has left Gary Barlow without a partner to sing with, and he'll be hoping for an eleventh hour saviour.

Only last night the Take That star expressed concerns about Cheryl’s health during rehearsals for the show, saying: 'We’re still waiting to hear but, if it doesn’t happen, I don’t know what we’re going to do.'

He has also brought together a supergroup named The Collective, comprised Chipmunk, Ed Sheeran, Miss Dynamite, Rizzle Kicks, Tulisa Contostavlos and Labrinth for this year's BBC Children In Need single, Teardrop.

The group will perform the single on this week's live show.

Cheryl and Gary met at his Holland Park home recently where it's alleged the Take That singer asked Cheryl to rejoin the X Factor judging panel.

Following their meeting, a source told Closer magazine: 'Talk inevitably turned to the X Factor and Cheryl admitted she thought it'd gone downhill.

'Gary said, with his backing, she could come back a hero. He was being really positive, buttering her up, and Cheryl couldn't stop smiling.

'He told she has his full support. Gary doesn't rate Tulisa as a judge.'

'I might just have to get on the piano and do a bit of Roll Out The Barrel...'

Rumours that Cheryl may return have apparently put N-Dubz star Tulisa's nose out of joint, as it may be her seat on the panel that's under threat.

Earlier this year Cheryl was unceremoniously dumped from the U.S. version of the X Factor after owner Simon Cowell decided she was 'uncomfortable' in the new role.

She was replaced with Nicole Scherzinger and reportedly turned down £2.5million to return to the UK version.

Instead N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland joined the panel alongside Gary Barlow.

And Tulisa allegedly blew her top when news got back to her of Cheryl and Gary's meeting.

Closer's source said: 'Tulisa was already paranoid about losing her job, so when she heard he'd actually met with Cheryl, she was shouting and cursing, calling Gary a "Judas".'

Kelly Rowland swaps judge's seat for the stage in a stunning performance

Back to the day job! Kelly Rowland swaps judge's seat for the stage in a stunning performance

By Lucy Buckland

Kelly Rowland has done a lot of talking recently, and not all of it nice.

After a war of words with fellow X Factor judge Tulisa and giving various contestants a tongue-lashing, it must be a relief for the former Destiny's Child star to do what she does best, singing.

The 30-year-old, who is releasing a new album, swapped her judges seat for the stage, performing on the Graham Norton Show.

And it seems the American star looked a lot more comfortable having the stage to herself for once.
The solo singer, who was performing tracks from her new album Here I Am, looked stunning in tight black leather leggings, boots and a sheer black top.

Her performance of new song Down For Whatever comes two days after Kelly seemed confused after being told in an interview about the latest storm to hit the X Factor, the departure of Frankie Cocozza.

She was caught unawares when quizzed on the breaking news during a filmed interview, and her shock over the scandal was caught on camera.

But she had soon recovered by the X Factor press conference yesterday where Kelly said that the move will simply make the existing hopefuls up their game.

'Everyone has to come out swinging,' she said. 'It should bring everyone up a notch.'

The singer is urging fans to vote for her act, Amelia Lily, who she scrapped from her final group in the first week of live shows.

But now it seems the pinked haired possible contestant has gone up in her mentor's opinion, being described as 'strong, strong contender.'

Meanwhile Amelia, 16, urged fans to vote for her to get back on the show on Twitter.

She wrote: 'Please, please vote, I have got so much more to give.'

Although Kelly had the stage to herself on the show, the curly haired songstress did have to share the couch with Lord Alan Sugar, Sir Cliff Richard and comedian Micky Flanagan.

But there didn't seem to be any rows between the group, unlike the reported spats between the X Factor judges.

Speaking to host Graham Norton on the show, which will air tonight, the singer said her tiff with Tulisa was well and truly over.

She told the audience: 'I would invite her to my wedding.'

And she added she loved being in the UK: 'It’s a blessing to be so far away from home and to feel so at home. I really appreciate all the love I’ve had here.'

Kelly and fellow judge N-Dubz star Tulisa had embarked in a war of words over their contestants.

The bitter rivalry is believed to have started after Tulisa slammed Kelly's act Misha B on air for 'backstage bullying'.

Kelly, 30, then flew back to Los Angeles, but claimed she was ill with a throat infection.

An Tulisa, 23, hit back claiming she didn't like the way Kelly was interfering with her groups.

On last weeks show fans saw the pair seemed to have mended the rift.

Tulisa said: 'We had a long chat, a proper chat about the show and personal stuff too. It's quite stressful being on the show and there's so much going on I don't think we ever had time to just talk about everything.'

Lucky actress Carey Mulligan has revealed a kissing scene with Johnny Depp in their movie had to be axed because she looked too 'uncomfortable'.

The Oscar-nominated British star appeared alongside the Hollywood heartthrob in the 2009 film Public Enemies.

'I had to kiss him several times,' she told the Graham Norton Show.

'It was 16 times, but it was cut out of the film because I looked so uncomfortable.

'I was kissing Johnny Depp and I got really nervous.'

Carey, 26, whose appearance on the show alongside Johnny Depp, said she still finds it difficult to accept she is appearing opposite huge names, including her latest role in The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio.

'I grew up watching everything he's ever done and it's difficult as I have to hide my inner fan when I am around him - it's terrible.

'He claims not to be able to dance when we do a dancing scene and I have to hide the fact that I know he can because I saw him dance in Titanic.'

And she admitted she was a little embarrassed about her parents seeing some of her movies.

In another new film, Shame, she plays a character with sex addiction, which she described as 'a little bit racy'.

'He is alright, he’s in the new show,' Ricky said.

Asked if Angelina Jolie is in his new show too, he said: 'I didn’t ask her, she didn’t look so happy.'

Asked why he had said yes to appearing in Ricky’s series, Johnny said: 'There was no way to reject it, it was just so perfect.'

Ricky also revealed: 'Robert De Niro called me up after the Globes and said "Good job, you were great, would you like me to talk to anyone?" I thought he was going to have someone whacked.'

Ricky then asked: 'I didn’t buy the controversy about the Globes, who did I really offend?'

And Carey proclaims: 'I was there and I think you offended quite a few people.'

Joining the show hotfoot from the London premier of his latest film, The Rum Diary, Johnny talked about his friendship with Hunter S Thompson on whose diary the film is based.

Graham described Johnny as ‘the best character actor in the world’.

He modestly responded: 'Good lord. I think it’s just some form of schizophrenia that has worked for me. My characters are born out of strange things like the extreme heat of a sauna and other things and then I bring them to set.

'The conversation [with film executives] normally starts with "What is wrong with you?"'
