Once more with passion! Nancy Dell'Olio and Alex Jones are back for group routine on tonight's Strictly Come Dancing final

Last updated at 11:15 AM on 17th December 2011

They all trained so hard in the hope of being crowned this year's king or queen of the dancefloor.

And despite being eliminated over the past few weeks, former Strictly Come Dancing contestants will have been delighted to be asked back to appear in the final - even if its just in a supporting role.

Fiesty property lawyer Nancy Dell'Olio and One Show presenter Alex Jones were among the celebrities pictured training hard yesterday for tonight's anticipated show.

It will be take place at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom.

Nancy was captured being thrown upside down by her partner Anton du Beke in London's Pineapple Studios.

The 50-year-old showed she had retained her dancer figure, moving gracefully in a pair of black leather leggings and towering heels.

Alex went for comfort over glamour in a grey jumper and skinny jeans but still opted for heels in a pair of chic boots.

Viewers will remember when stagazer Russell Grant 'shot' out of a cannonball before being eliminated.

And by the looks of yesterday's practice, he may be pulling a similar move.

Comedian Rory Bremner and footballer Robbie Savage were seen lifting him up into the air.

Recently eliminated Australian singer Holly Valance looked as though she will be bringing the sex factor to the final, as she wiggled her hips while off in a world of her own.

She then snuggled up to her hunky partner Artem Chigvintsev.

Boxer Audley Harrison may not be quite the twinkle toes but he showed he takes dancing seriously, concentrating hard with partner Natalie Lowe.

There was no sign of the three finalists and their partners - Jason Donovan, Chelsee Healey and Harry Judd.

McFly drummer Harry is this year's favourite to win.

But he isn't counting on it, saying this week: 'Chelsee and Jason are incredible so I will have to keep working hard.

'It will come down to who performs best on the night.'

If Waterloo Road's Chealsee wins, she will be the youngest winner in the show's history, at 23 years-old.

Adios, Ola! Strictly professional Jordan axed from live tour with husband James as pair are told they 'won't be needed'

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers Ola and James Jordan have been axed from the live tour after producers told them they 'wouldn't be needed'.

James took to his Twitter page yesterday to tell fans he had received an email from tour bosses breaking the news.

He wrote: 'Myself and Ola will definitely NOT be doing the Strictly Tour! Just received an E-MAIL to say we are not needed!!'

During this series of Strictly, Ola, 29, had been partnering Robbie Savage while James was voted off with dance partner Alex Jones last weekend.

Show insiders revealed that 33-year-old James's bust-ups with show judge and tour director Craig Revel Horwood were the real reason the husband and wife team were left out.

Sparkles: Ola had been partnering Robbie Savage on the show

A source said: 'James's behaviour this year has been getting worse and worse. He has been throwing strops on live television and his behaviour has really annoyed show chiefs.

'This decision certainly came as a surprise to the Jordans - but bosses have thought James in particular needed a reality check for a long time.'

And Ola's partner Savage tweeted his disappointment that he would not be dancing with her on the tour.

He wrote: 'Ola was the best partner ever tweeps but she is not doing the tour I don't decide who I partner no one is bigger than the show!'

A spokesperson for the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour said: 'Unfortunately, with 14 celebrities and 14 professional dancers in the Strictly Come Dancing television show it is simply not possible to take everyone on tour.

'The celebrity line up for the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour is not confirmed until quite late, largely due to the busy schedules of the celebrities and their existing commitments.

'Once the celebrity line up is confirmed, the tour is able to confirm the professional dancers accompanying them on the tour.

'Since the first tour in 2008 there have been changes to the line up of professional dancers and, on this occasion, Ola and James are not in the professional line up.'

The decision has led fans to speculate that the Ola, who won the show in 2009 with partner Chris Hollins, and James may be axed by producers from the next series of the show.

Footballer Robbie Savage Quicksteps off Strictly Come Dancing

He's been one of the most entertaining celebrities on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

But footballer Robbie Savage and his partner Ola Jordan were voted off after ending up bottom of the leaderboard the previous night.

The former Welsh midfielder, 37, ended up in the bottom two with Australian singer/actor Jason Donovan.

His exit came after his Quickstep to Little Green Bag from the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack received a score of 30.

Head judge Len Goodman told him on Saturday's live show: 'You've given me a lot of pleasure and you didn't disappoint. You've got enthusiasm. It was a bit rough around the edges for me, but you made the best of what you've got. It wasn't top notch.'

Bruno Tonioli added: 'The way you were strutting your stuff, somewhere between Kate Moss and Russell Brand. You were trying very hard. Your ballroom is better.'

Head to head: Savage ended up in the bottom two with Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff

But Craig Revel-Horwood wasn't so positive: 'Your knee pulses were completely out of time, your head position needs to go a lot more left, it lacked swing or sway which made the top part a little stiff, you could drive the dance a little more. It was little bit like a rabbit doing a trot...

'But I did love the concept and your performance of it.'

Savage said he hoped the show changed his reputations after being renowned for being a bad boy on the football pitch thanks to his numerous yellow cards.

He said: 'People didn't know who I was before I came to this show, I wasn't a nice person on the football pitch and hopefully I've changed people's perceptions of me.

'I am just a normal, decent guy.'

Donovan's position in the bottom two came as a surprise after he and partner Kristina Rihanoff ended up third on the leaderboard with their stunning Foxtrot to Singin' In The Rain.

The remaining couples Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev, Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani, Holly Valance and Artem Chigvintsev and Alex Jones and James Jordan will compete in next week's Semi-final.

It's not a striptease! Cheeky Robbie Savage drops his trousers on Strictly to reveal a pair of football shorts

Robbie Savage tapped into his inner burlesque dancer, by shedding his layers on Strictly Come Dancing.

The reality contesant stripped off on the dancefloor, peeling off his trousers to reveal a pair of football shorts.

Performing the Samba with partner Ola Jordan, Savage flashed his trademark grin as he removed his black formal wear to expose the blue sports kit with the number eight on.

But despite the comical shenanigans, Len Goodman was quick to criticise.

Goodman said: 'It was a shamba! You got possessed and it turned into Match Of The Day.'

Awkward! Bruce Forsyth didn't know where to look when Robbie was in his shorts

And it was double trouble for the seven remaining couples, who had to battle two dances this week including a compulsory Swing-a-thon alongside a regular Ballroom or Latin number.

Each couple were marked out of 40 as usual for their first dance, but their that score was then combined their efforts in the second performance.

The Swing-a-thon rating was then rewarded in order of who got asked to leave the floor one by one, with the first evictee scoring one and the last receiving seven points.

Savage picked up just 25 in the Samba, and was first to be axed second, meaning he has a grand total of 26.

Yet it seemed nothing could pop Savage's bubble, as he gloated about his Wembley Arena performance last week, saying: 'I felt like Robbie Williams.'
Harry Judd dominated the leaderboard with his double victory.
The McFly star scored top mark for his energetic Swing-a-thon, and secured three tens for his Quickstep and a result of 39 - meaning a combined score of 46.

Chelsee Healy and Pasha Kovalev came second, with an original score of 35 and then a Swing score of six, resulting in a total of 41.

Dressed in a sparkly, slashed red dress, Holly Valance stole the show in the beauty stakes with her electrifying performance with partner Artem Chigvintsev.

The Australian beauty, 28, has been under constant pressure from judges to 'let go' in her performances and it seems she finally has, with Alesha Dixon saying: 'You totally owned it tonight.'

However, they crept in at fourth position with a total of 37, behind Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff in third with 40.

The One show presenter Alex Jones and her partner James Jordan came up against criticism from the judges, scoring fifth of the night.

Their first dance achieved a lowly 29, but they boosted it with a total of 34.

Anita Dobson and Brendan Cole were second from bottom with 32.

Not bad considering they have not danced together before though.

Cole stepped in after Dobson's original partner Robin Windsor pulled out with a foot infection.

The fall from grace came after stealing the show at last week's Wembley Arena performance.

But the couple were slammed by judge Craig, who branded their dance 'mediocre'.

Alesha was a little more encouraging, adding: 'I thought it was quirky, funny and sweet. You've developed a great partnership.'

Russell Grant is a charismatic cannonball as Strictly takes over Wembley Arena

Dumbo springs to mind'! Russell Grant is a charismatic cannonball as Strictly takes over Wembley Arena

By Holly Thomas

Last updated at 11:07 PM on 19th November 2011

He may be the least technically skillful dancer left in the competition, but there was no doubt who won the heart of Strictly's Wembley audience tonight.

Despite hitting the bottom of the leader board again, Russell Grant received a standing ovation for the thrilling routine, which kicked off with him shooting from a cannon on a glittering red sleigh.

He and his partner Flavia Cacace then launched into an energetic Jive to S Club Seven's Reach For The Stars.

Dressed in eye-catching yellow embellished with blue stars it was clear that Russell's lack of dancing ability hadn't affected his confidence as he threw himself about the stage- which was six times larger than their usual dance floor.

Alesha started the commentary with: 'Just when you think you've seen it all... definitely the Best entrance I've seen yet. For what you lacked in jive technique you certainly made up for in entertainment.'

An thoroughly excited Bruno gushed: 'Russell the magnificent flying machine, soaring into an orbit of madness! It had nothing to do with jive but I loved it!'

Craig was brief, murmuring 'Dumbo springs to mind', before adding as the crowd's boos died down: 'revolutionary.'

Len: I don't care how many great dancers they have, and how many series there are, people will always remember this routine!'

The pair were awarded a modest 24, with Bruno's seven being the highest score from the judges- 'for the pure madness.'

First up dancing the salsa were Robbie Savage and his partner Ola Jordan, who achieved their best ever score of 31 last week.

With hopes high to best their record, the pair hit the stage to Robbie Williams' Let Me Entertain You with a energetic routine, Ola sporting a sexy backless purple catsuit, and Robbie baring his chest with blue trousers and a matching (unbuttoned) shirt.

The audience responded with uproarious applause, however the judges were slightly less impressed.

Len started the commentary with: 'You treated this like the FA Cup Final, it was like you were trying to straddle a goal post! You were all wild and savage! 7

Alesha was more positive, saying: 'You opened the show like it was your own rock concert, the lifts were crazy! It didn't have the salsa feel I'm used to, but it was great entertainment.' 7

Bruno remarked that the performance could have used more 'refinement' as it was supposed to be a dance of courtship- whereas Robbie was throwing Ola 'all over the place'. 7

And Craig gave a mixed critique, calling Robbie 'flat-footed', but complimenting him on his well-shaped upper body.

The couple picked up a score of 26.

Alex Jones and James were next up, taking to the stage with a tango to the Frankie Goes To Hollywood classic Relax (Don't do it).

The One Show presenter continued the bare-backed theme with a glittering black and silver upper half, teamed with a long pale purple skirt.

Alesha went straight in with a glowing critique, enthusing: 'From a happy-go-lucky jive to a seductive tango this week. It was really believable, good job.'

Bruno gushed: 'You got it absolutely right, I love your look Alex, 'You may touch me.'

Reunited: After they were parted by Artem Chigvintsev's injury last week, Holly Valance was back with her old partner for a fun routine to Amy Winehouse's Valerie

And even Craig had something good to say, commenting: 'I believe we may be seeing some improvement, it was staccato, it was great.'

Len finished with: 'That's just what I like, a lovely tango danced beautifully. Relax!'

The pair picked up a 35, their highest ever score.

Mixed response: Craig said it was a 'good job' and fantastic routine, but remarked that Holly needed to find her centre

Artem was injured last week, so Brendan had stepped into his shoes to dance with Holly Valance.

Following a tense week practicing with both dancers, a relieved Holly took to the stage with her old partner to Amy Winehouse's Valerie.

Bruno 'Holly Holly, at times you're thrilling and at times you're maddening! You're like a thoroughbred who hasn't been broken in yet, at times you're wonderful and at times you make me so angry!'

Craig said it was a 'good job' and fantastic routine, but remarked that Holly needed to find her centre.

Len agreed that Holly had lost control now and again, but complimented the good use of space.

And Alesha also picked up on Holly's loss of control, but said that she had like the routine nevertheless.

Something lacking? Craig was quite picky in his critique with the semi-finals looming

The couple won a respectable score of 31, putting them comfortably in the middle of the leader board.

Anita Dobson and Robin were up next, dancing the Samba to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.

Craig said of Anita's efforts: Your shoulders were hunched, it was very muddy and murky footwork. We're getting very specific now, the semi-finals are coming up. On a good note, your timing was very good.'

Enjoyed herself: Anita clearly had a fantastic time on the Wembley dance floor

Alesha on the other hand thought that Anita had lost some timing, but loved her spirit.

Bruno said: 'You did well, but sometimes we all have dances that don't come out quite as we expect.'

The couple received a score of 27.

Harry Judd and his partner Aliona were up next with the Salsa, with expectations high having topped the leader board with their Argentine tango last week.

Oozing sex appeal: Harry Judd and his partner Aliona were up next with the Salsa, which they danced to I'm Still Standing

The couple stormed onto the stage to I'm Still Standing, with sexy performance that had the audience clamouring for more.

Len said: 'That was what I'd call a full-on samba, you went for it lock stock and barrel. The lifts were good, but I'd like a little more hip action. It should have been slightly more compact, and more clubby.'

Alesha continued with: 'You handled that with ease, I thought you had a bit of hip action going! Good job.'

Hard to fault: Craig said he 'loved the routine, the lift was spectacular', but Harry's hips were found lacking

Bruno gushed: 'Flirtation, sexy, vibrant! A little work on your bum, but we can talk about that later.'

Even Craig was impressed, saying: 'I loved the routine, the lift was spectacular, but it needed the groove, and as Len said there was a desperate lack of hip action.'

Chelsea Healy danced the samba with her partner Pasha, starting with a sexy silhouette solo routine.

Craig said: Your finished are generally excellent, all the way through the spins were fantastic.'

'I thought you were brave doing that section alone at the beginning,. That spiced up my night,' added Len.

Alesha finished with 'A very strong opening, you had the spirit you had the bounce, and I think you're really coming into your own,' and the couple nabbed a score of 35.

Jason Donovan and Christina were last on, dancing the jive to Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.

Craig said: 'That would have been phenomenal if it weren't for the last move, but an amazing amazing routine.'

Len followed, saying 'I am really disappointed for you, I can tell by the foot placement the bounce, that you've been working your socks off.'

On a more sombre note, he added 'I'm issuing a warning though as I am starting t see more lifts kick in. Everyone's doing it, but I will start knocking off points.

Alesha said: 'It's such a shame Jason you were doing so well, and you should be proud because it went wrong and then you picked yourself .'

Bruno added 'You were like an energetic spunky teenager, it was magnificent. I think the occasion overwhelmed you and you lost timing a little, but still a-ma-zing.'

The couple went home with an impressive 34.

Strictly sleazy! A pelvis-thrusting footballer, far too much cleavage on display, a knicker-flashing Nancy and threats to sue one of the judges

  • Nancy Dell'Olio prepared to contact lawyers over Alesha Dixon's comments
  • 'It's like a Christmas tree without the lights' says booted off celebrity

Nancy Dell-Olio is seeking the advice of lawyers as she is looking for an apology for comments made about her on the BBC show
Nancy Dell-Olio is seeking the advice of lawyers as she is looking for an apology for comments made about her on the BBC show

You might have thought you’d heard the last of Nancy Dell’Olio for a while after she was voted off Strictly Come Dancing.

But given her feisty reputation, she was never likely to go quietly.

She has launched a war of words with Alesha Dixon after the judge described her final performance as ‘unfeminine’.

Yesterday Miss Dell’Olio hit back by calling her ‘vulgar’.

And she has told friends she is prepared to contact lawyers in an effort to get an official apology from Miss Dixon and the BBC.

It comes after this year’s series was blighted by accusations of producers introducing ever more revealing costumes and vulgar routines in an attempt to chase ratings.

The BBC has received more than 300 complaints about ex-footballer Robbie Savage’s ‘Michael Jackson-style’ hip thrusts on Saturday’s show, which he directed at judge Craig Revel Horwood.

Many viewers have also complained about the plunging necklines and exposed flesh shown by contestants including One Show presenter Alex Jones, 34, and Waterloo Road actress Chelsee Healey, 23.

Miss Healey broke down in tears after her low-cut gown slipped when she lost her footing while dancing the tango with partner Pasha Kovalev.

And producers have been criticised for introducing a new camera which focuses on the contestants’ cleavages as they descend or mount the set’s stairs.

Miss Dell’Olio, 50, was widely mocked by the judges for her rumba with Anton Du Beke on this weekend’s Halloween special, in which she wore a revealing white and silver dress and flashed her underwear as she clambered out of a sequined coffin.

Miss Dixon, 33, a former winner of the show, said of the performance: ‘Nancy, I think you are a sexy woman and you know how to work it but I have to be honest – you are a walking disaster.

‘Your legs are so far apart and that’s not very feminine. You both should have stayed in the coffin!’

On BBC Breakfast yesterday, Miss Dell’Olio said the show had been left bare without her, adding: ‘It’s like a Christmas tree without the lights.’

And referring to Miss Dixon, the only female judge on the Strictly panel, she said: ‘Some of the comments, especially when something comes from a woman to another woman, she has to think about it.

‘She was not elegant, she was a little bit vulgar. There is a fine line between entertainment and then unnecessary comments.’

Presenter Sian Williams then interjected: ‘Alesha did say you are very sexy…’ to which Miss Dell’Olio retorted: ‘Well everyone knows that, it’s quite evident.’

But she admitted: ‘If you do a show like this you can’t take anything personally, you have to take a risk for entertainment.’

Seemingly joking, she added: ‘I don’t think it was personal otherwise they would be having legal action immediately from my lawyers.’

However last night a close friend told the Daily Mail: ‘Nancy was really hurt by Alesha’s comments.

‘The way she looks is, of course, a massive part of her personality.

‘She doesn’t mind her dancing being criticised, but she took Alesha’s remarks about her legs as a massive slap in the face.

'She felt it was really nasty to be trashed in front of millions of viewers and she wants an apology – and she’s talking to lawyers to find out the best way to get one.’

The friend added: ‘Anton is also appalled.’

Miss Dell’Olio had already been ogled by head judge Len Goodman when she danced the salsa in an earlier show, when he told her: ‘The most exciting part was when I took a crafty look up your skirt.’

Miss Dell’Olio’s spokesman said last night: ‘Nancy is now looking at her options as to how to get an apology from Alesha and the BBC.’

Yesterday Savage also hit back at criticism of his routine, writing on Twitter: ‘So some people thought it was inappropriate to do a Michael Jackson move at 7pm on a Saturday night to one of his songs! Why?’

Last night a BBC spokesman said: ‘The judges always look to give constructive criticism and this is often delivered with humour given that Strictly is an entertainment show. Alesha’s comments were not meant to cause any offence.’
