Selena Gomez has taken to the stage for the first time since her emergency trip to the hospital on Thursday last week.

The 18-year-old performed live and answered questions about her new movie Monte Carlo at Santa Monica Place Mall.

During her appearance she also revealed that she was 'malnourished and exhausted' when she was admitted to hospital.

'I was just very malnourished, so I was low on iron and exhausted,' she told reporters today, when asked about the cause of her health scare.

As enthusiastic as ever, Selena wore a sheer white embroidered blouse and a pair of mini-shorts for her stage performance, which was rescheduled from Friday when the singer fell ill.

She accessorised with some black and tan strappy stilettos and Tiffany jewellery.

She sang her two hit songs 'Who Says' and 'A Year Without Rain' and interacted with some 500 fans who came to see her, apologising for her missed appearance on Friday.

'I want to thank you so much for coming,' she said. 'If you guys came on Friday, I'm so sorry that I couldn't be here. ... I love you guys very much.

'I do feel better!'

After worrying fans with her emergency trip to the hospital, Selena also today let them know that she was going to be fine via Twitter.

'Feeling much better, thank you all for being so understanding,' she tweeted.

Selena was reportedly rushed to the emergency room because of blood pressure-related health problems, but no further details had been given up until the singer's admission today.

At the time of the circumstance she was said to be complaining of nausea and a severe headache and returned to the hospital on Saturday looking tired and run down.

But indeed she was in decidedly better spirits today and before her performance seemed excited.

'Can't wait to see you all today at Santa Monica Place for the Monte Carlo kick off,' she added about her mall appearance, the first show of her 10-city tour.

She also posted on her official Facebook page: 'I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the get well wishes. I love you guys so much.'

Selena cut a frail figure as she was seen entering a hospital in Burbank, California, dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms and a yellow and white striped vest at the weekend.

The Wizards of Waverly Place star was rushed to hospital on Thursday night following an appearance on U.S. television.

An insider told Us Weekly that Gomez was 'nothing but professional' during her appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

'She did a backstage interview and hung out with Jim Carrey after the show. The Tonight Show people didn't even know she wasn't feeling well,' the sourced added.

While many wondered if the star was pregnant gossip website TMZ have confirmed that the rumours are untrue.

Her boyfriend Justin missed an Ice Hockey on Friday night after hearing Selena had fallen ill.

The Canadian singer didn't show up to the game after reserving a block of seats at Vancouver's Rogers Arena to watch the Stanley Cup finals Friday night, E! News reported.

Hours earlier from being rushed to hospital Gomez had seemed to be on good form during the Tonight show, telling the host how her boyfriend Justin Bieber - who today tweeted his sweetheart a Twitter message of support - has already 'passed the mom test'

Selena Gomez has also appeared as a guest star on Disney Channel’s So Random! show which will air on June 19.

As well as belting out a song in a black and white striped vest the actress is also seen with the cast during her cameo.

'Has your mom met Justin Bieber?' Leno asked, to which the smiling former Disney star replied: 'Yes.'

'And how did that go? Ok? Did she like him?' asked Leno.

'He passed the test," the Texas-born star responded.
