She's known for her powerful voice and sunny disposition.

But as Katherine Jenkins prepares to release her first single from her new album, it looks like she has had a moody makeover.

The Welsh mezzo-soprano looks suitably brooding as she sings about the pain of heartbreak in her new promo Break It To My Heart.

The contemporary song, produced by John Shanks, who has also worked with Take That, is the first single from her new album Daydream.

The video, a departure from her previous promos, is directed by Christopher Cottam, who also helmed American R&B singer Kelis' 2010 video Acapella.

Looking trapped in a castle-like building, Jenkins has nothing but the cold walls for company as she laments over her broken relationship.

At one point, it appears the walls are closing in on her as she attempts to break free from her emotional turmoil.

But fortunately for Jenkins, her real-life lovelife isn't quite so distressing, as she's happily engaged to Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones.

The Popstar To Operatstar judge recorded Daydream - her eighth album - in Los Angeles and London in spring this year and promises an eclectic mix of songs from classical and traditional to folk and easy pop.

The disc features the Celtic classic Black Is The Colour, I Dreamed A Dream from Les Misérables in French, a new compostion of Ava Maria and A Flower Tells A Story - a tribute to service men and women.

Last month, Jenkins appealed to fans to avoid a compilation of her songs released by her former record label Decca.

As Daydream is set to be released with Warner Bros, the singer was concerned some fans may mistakenly buy the One Fine Day album believing it is her latest release.

She tweeted: 'Just heard that Universal @DeccaRecords are putting out YET ANOTHER compilation album of my music called One Fine Day.

'Considering that I haven't recorded 4them since 2008, there is NO new music & it's stuff u already have. Don't want u 2 feel conned.

'Make sure you get the right one.'

Jenkins made history in 2008 when she signed a new recording deal with Warner, said to be the biggest in classical music.

Daydream, the album, goes on sale on October 10.
