Classical singing sensation Katherine Jenkins has an online stalker who has been bullying and bad-mouthing her for more than a year, the star revealed yesterday.

But the mezzo-soprano, who was raised on a tough South Wales council estate, has taken the fight to her cyber-bully, thought to be an obsessed opera fan.

The revelation comes just a day after a £25,000 black diamond and ruby poppy leant to Katherine by jewellers Garrard was stolen hours before she was due to sing for the Queen at a Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Perhaps emboldened by this setback, she addressed the stalker publicly on the social networking site Twitter, via a link to her personal account.

‘You have no right to harass me as you’ve done for the past year with comments like “bring out the dead daddy story again”,’ said Katherine, whose father died of lung cancer when she was doing her GCSEs at 15 years old.

‘You’ve set up a false account in my name where you slate and destroy my character.’

According to the Welsh songbird, who rakes in £3.5million a year, the bullying began last summer.

But on Sunday morning, when Katherine appeared on live TV chat show Something For The Weekend, the bully struck again.

During questions which viewers tweeted in to the show, she recognised her cyber-bully’s name as it was read out by presenter Tim Lovejoy. However she remained calm, answering the bully’s bogus query correctly.

But just half an hour after coming off air she let fly at her persecutor, saying: ‘After blocking you, you still tried to find a way to get to me and this morning was a step too far.

‘Sending in a question to be read on live TV to “make me look clueless” was utterly pathetic and you clearly failed.’

She added: ‘The sad thing is you’ll probably enjoy the attention which is why I haven’t mentioned your Twitter name, but I know who you are.’

Worried friends now say that Katherine, who is to marry TV presenter Gethin Jones next year, is considering calling in the police.

The singer’s spokesman adds: ‘Bullying of any kind is unacceptable. Katherine loves Twitter. It’s a shame a minority use it to bully.’
