'I am one very happy girl' Coronation Street star Paula Lane gets engaged to college sweetheart Tom Shaw

As feisty Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, she rushed down the aisle in a racy red corset dress with David after just a few weeks of dating.

But in real-life, actress Paula Lane's path to matrimony will be a bit more traditional after getting engaged to her long-term love Tom Shaw.

The delighted soap star, 25, announced today on her Twitter page that her live-in boyfriend Shaw had proposed to her during a break in York yesterday.

She wrote: 'Yesterday was the most amazing day! I went to York a girlfriend and came back a fiancée! Tom Shaw - engaged r us!'

After being deluged with congratulatory messages, she added an hour later: 'Thank you so much for all your lovely messages! I am one very happy girl and this is the best Christmas ever!'

Among those to congratulate her was Corrie co-star Samia Ghadie, who wrote: 'Ahh huge congrats Paula and Tom. Gorgeous news. Have a mega Christmas.'

Lane and fellow actor Shaw have been dating since meeting at college in Huddersfield when they were 17 and moved in together in Manchester earlier this year.

Earlier this year, she proclaimed she knew he was 'the one' and hoped to marry him one day.

She told the Daily Star Sunday: 'We're feeling very lucky at the moment as we're both in a position where we're working. I think we're just enjoying being young, having holidays and loving life as a couple.

'But saying that, I'd definitely say yes to getting married if he asked me. I think he's waiting to make sure it feels right - but he's had long enough.

'We've been together for years. He's definitely the one, there's no doubt in my mind. It's taking him a little longer to figure it all out. But we're very happy.'

Lane joined the cast of Coronation Street in August 2010, playing the gobby half-sister to Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly), who tried to sell her son Max to her.

After a few months off-screen, Kylie returned to Weatherfield as the fiancée of bad boy David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) after they fell in love during a holiday in Tenerife.

They ended up marrying in April 2011, despite attempts by David's mother Gail (Helen Worth) to prevent the union.

They are as close off screen as they are on screen.

So it's no wonder that Sacha Parkinson found herself overcome with emotion as she was shown a montage of her Coronation Street romance with co-star Brooke Vincent during an interview on This Morning.

The 19-year-old actress, who plays Sian Powers in the ITV soap, held her hands over her face and told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford 'I'm so embarrassed!' as the camera cut back to her after the montage showing her struggling to control her tears.

Real-life best friend Brooke then jumped in to continue the interview for Sacha, explaining: 'It's mad just looking at it. We've spent so much time together and preparing for it.

'We've been saying for ages that it's the beginning of the end but this is the end, that's it now.'

Brooke, who plays Sacha's girlfriend Sophie Webster in the soap, then added: 'I'm going to start crying now!'

Talking about her friendship with Sacha, Brooke said: 'We're more like sisters, we've done a lot together and we've known each other since we were about six.'

The duo were appearing on This Morning to talk about their upcoming Christmas storyline, which will see their wedding called into doubt after Sophie's affair with Amber.

And while details of the plot have yet to be released, the fact that Sacha is leaving the soap suggests things won't be going according to plan.

Talking about her plans post-Corrie, Sacha said: 'It's really exciting just going back to auditioning. It's just something I have to do.

'I was so comfortable there that I could have stayed there for the next 50 years but I just want to do something interesting, something to get my teeth into.'

But when Brooke was asked if she has considered leaving the soap for the same reasons, she replied: 'I don't like change - I don't like anything changing. I'm just happy and settled, I know my routine and I like that.'

With her perfect curves, long legs and adoring boyband star fiancé Max George, it’s hard to believe Coronation Street favourite Michelle Keegan has body issues.

But the three times Sexiest Female British Soap Awards winner reveals she is not as body confident as people may think.

Posing for a festive Christmas shoot for new! magazine, Michelle confessed: 'I’m not confident at all, I’m just very laid back. I’ve still got insecurities, which I think every girl’s got.'

She added: ‘I’m not 100 per cent confident with my body and obviously there are things that I hate, like my ears, but I’m quite laid back about it.'

Getting into the seasonal spirit, Michelle put any insecurities aside for the glamorous shoot.

The bubbly brunette posed daintily in a white and gold-trimmed asymmetrical dress, atop a giant bottle of champagne.

But when it comes to her own drinking habits, Michelle may not be the greatest fan of either tipple.

She revealed: ‘I don’t actually like the taste of alcohol. I drink to get drunk, really!’

Michelle can’t wait for the impending December 25, particularly as she’ll be spending her first with fiancé George of The Wanted.

Max proposed with a ring and a puppy in June this year, after just six months together, catching Michelle by surprise.

She’s now looking forward to spending quality time with him over the festive season.

She said: 'I’m looking forward to it more than ever, actually. He works away quite a lot, so I don’t really get the chance to see him, but at Christmas we’ll spend lots of time together.'

As late as last week, Michelle revealed she still had no idea what she was going to get Max.

She said: 'He's got everything! He hasn't got any hair, so I can't get him hair products.

'He only likes one aftershave so I can't buy him that, and he wears the clothes he gets given at shoots. I'm panicking!'

She is normally pictured showing off her fabulous curves in tight dresses.

But Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley covered up yesterday as she got into the Christmas spirit.

The actress wore a black dress with a red trim and red flowers as she did her best Mrs Santa Claus impression.

She teamed the dress with a red feather bower and matching ruby heels.

The 27-year-old capped off the outfit in a festive hat with the words 'Text Santa' embroidered on it.

She took time out of her busy schedule to support the charity campaign and posed for the pictures outside Granada Studios in Manchester, where Corrie is filmed.

The rising star was interrupted by an eager fan who was after an autograph.

She was more than happy to give the enthusiast what he wanted though and then got back to the modelling.

Catherine was joined by what appeared to be a man dressed in a blonde wig.

Her male friend, who looked like an ugly sister from a Cinderella pantomime, was wearing a pink dress that was lined with fur and pink jogging bottoms.

Catherine, who plays Eva Price in the popular northern soap, was helping to raise money and awareness for charities this Christmas through the Text Santa campaign.

Other celebrities that are supporting the effort include Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

She's provided much of the glamour on the cobbles, so Helen Flanagan made sure she went out with a fashionable bang today.

The 21-year-old said goodbye to her alter-ego Rosie Webster after 12 years on Coronation Street.

The actress couldn't hide her smile as she popped into town in Manchester on a break from filming her last scenes.

She braved the cold in a chic black Chanel beanie, oversized wrap coat and thigh-high black boots.

She carried her belongings in a massive white handbag.

Helen simply wrote on Twitter this morning: 'Last day at Coronation Street.'

Yesterday she said: 'Just got home from Christmas Shopping in Manchester #thoughfulmeaningfulgifts. Can not believe its my last day at work tomorrow!'

The actress endured the laborious task of cleaning out her dressing room, and tweeted a picture of an exciting discovery.

She said: 'Look what I brought back from my dressing room clear out... My first ever designer handbag.'

Helen is leaving the show to be with her footballer boyfriend Scott Sinclair.

She will move to Wales where Scott plays for Swansea City.

The actress has been plagued by panic attacks this year, with one causing her to run out while filming, but she says they did not affect her reason to leave.

She told Hello! magazine she couldn't grow as a person anymore.

Although she also admitted she felt some of her characters storylines were a little risque.

She said she was nothing like budding model Rosie in real life.

'I like that she's confident, whereas I'm reserved and shy.

'I can hide behind her. She's funny and sweet too. I didn't enjoy playing her when she went through a promiscuous phase. Luckily she shows more heart these days.

'But I'd give her some advice and tell her to calm down a bit. She is fiercely ambitious and worships power and money.'

They play on-screen lesbian loves which has resulted in them becoming the very best of friends off-screen.

And Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson say that when it came to filming their last ever scenes together, the tears were very real.

Brooke and Sacha, both 19, have been involved in a lesbian storyline on Coronation Street since April 2010.

Last month, fans of the soap were treated to exclusive shots of the pair filming scenes of the lesbian wedding, which saw Sacha's character Sian Powers running away from her bride-to-be Sophie Webster, played by Brooke, on the big day after discovering that she had been unfaithful.

A fortnight later, Sacha filmed her last scenes after she announced she was leaving the soap.

And speaking to New! magazine this week, both girls said they found shooting her last moments on the cobbles to be very emotional.

Brooke said: 'We’ve been crying all the time. Normally, when one of us has to cry for a scene, we burst out laughing, but this time we both had tears streaming down our faces.

'I was actually on the verge of being sick. It was horrible.'

After being in an on-screen gay relationship for so long, Brooke said she was annoyed that the scriptwriters have made Sophie straight again.

She said: 'We’ve had so much support and recognition for this storyline, so for them to make her straight again would be the worst thing ever.

'What we’ve done has brought confidence to people. One girl told me that when her nan tells people she’s a lesbian, she says, "You know, like those two girls off Corrie." It’s so nice people can relate to us.'

But as Sacha bids farewell to the soap after two years, she said filming the wedding scenes has not made her desperate to get hitched herself.

She said: 'I like the idea of getting married. But when you get married in real life, you don’t have to do it again and again and again – hopefully.'

She may be bowing out of the show early next year, but it seems Coronation Street star Sacha Parkinson is determined to make her exit in style.

The 19-year-old turned up to the soap's Christmas party at Suede in Manchester showing off her legs in a flirty feathered skirt.

She was accompanied by her boyfriend, property surveyor Josh Wakefield.

She teamed her skirt with a structured black corset bra and short leather jacket.

Clearly excited for her night out, she tweeted beforehand: 'Too excited to see everyone tonightttt! Works party and then #Ambition at Über Lounge! Wooo!'

Sacha has been playing Sian Powers on the ITV soap since 2009, but is due to go out in style at the beginning of next year.

She and co-star Brooke Vincent were spotted filming scenes of their lesbian wedding last month, which saw Sian running away from her bride-to-be on the big day after discovering she had been unfaithful.

Rumours that Sian decides to call time on their relationship for good, might now be a dead give-away after Sacha has now left the show.

Meanwhile Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price in the popular northern soap, was dressed to impress.

The 27-year-old arrived at Corrie's Christmas party in a festive red dress.

Catherine showed off her womanly curves in the lowcut knee-length dress which she teamed with a pair of creme coloured high heels.

She wore her blonde hair down and accessorised the outfit with a metallic gold clutch bag.

The actress had tweeted earlier in the evening: 'what? Pre party Champagne with Debbie Rush and @lane_paula ??? Booom! Cant wait to dance my toes off! (sic).'

Fellow cast member Paula Lane was looking foward to the party too after a tough day on set.

Paula, who plays Kylie Platt, said on Twitter: 'Filming some very emotional scenes today with my on screen big sis @katherine_kelly. Everyone is gonna miss her so much :-( (sic).'

The party didn't last long for Paula and she left shortly after midnight.

Other stars that attended the party included Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster, and Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley Cropper.

Neither Sally or Julie could compere to Catherine's hot red dress and the pair both wore more conservative black numbers.

Alison King arrived with a very startled looking Adam Huckett.

Alison, who is known for her portrayal of factory owner Carla Connor, was all smiles for the camera.

However, her sound technician fiancé closed his eyes for one shot and grimaced as Alison pulled him towards the entrance of the party.

She's known for her saucy persona but it seems Rosie Webster's antics may cause a few accidents.

The Coronation Street resident was spotted getting frisky in a van today but all didn't end well.

Helen Flanagan, 21, who plays the manipulative character was seen filming some intimate scenes with her onscreen lover Jason Grimshaw - played by Ryan Thomas.

The builder isn't too pleased when he has to stop to get diesel for his van in the pouring rain and leaves his girlfriend sitting in his white van.

However, Rosie being who she is decides to try and cheer up her boyfriend when he returns, and the two end up getting quite frisky in the front of the van and doesn't seem to care who can see them.

Still wearing his fluorescent high-visibility jacket, Jason gets carried away with his model girlfriend and the pair end up letting the handbrake go.

But before they notice that the van has been rolling forward, it's too late and they've already smashed into a parked car.

The pair no doubt want to make a quick getaway following the crash but with a driver sitting in the car in front, there's little chance that they're going to get away with it - unless Rosie can use her manipulative charm to talk him round.

Actress, Flanagan, was spotted on set after they filmed the scenes and looked very glammed up as usual.

Wearing a short navy blue skirt with a green top and towering black heels, the brunette kept herself warm by wearing a faux fur coat.

Flanagan is set to be filming her final scenes this for the ITV soap this month after revealing that she wouldn't be renewing her contract.

She has played the whining character for 11 years but admitted she will be moving to Swansea to be with her footballer boyfriend Scott Sinclair.

In a recent interview, Flanagan also stated that she wasn't sure how Rosie will be written out of the show but presumes it will be down to her wanting to pursue her glamour modelling career.

She will be seen on the small screen until February next year.
