She tried to style her new cropped haircut a number of different ways but Vanessa Hudgens clearly missed her long locks.

The 22-year-old used the magic of hair extensions to transform her mane which she debuted yesterday at the final tennis major, the US Open.

Vanessa opted for extra-long, jet-black strands which matched her natural colour and cascaded down her back.

The High School Musical star was spotted just last week still sporting the short barnet as she left a gym in Los Angeles.


She had hacked the do herself to film new flick Gimme Shelter, in which she plays a pregnant teenager.

On set, she's been barely recognisable dressed in shapeless dark clothes, with greasy, scruffy hair, no make-up and facial piercings and tattoo - a far cry from her usual glamorous style.
She told Access Hollywood of her mane: 'Oh man, it's really intense, I'm still getting used to it,' she told Access Hollywood.
'Honestly, I kind of feel a bit like a soccer mom, but we're going to let that go.

She looked trendy but comfortable yesterday in a cropped, off-the-shoulder, paisley top, black maxi skirt, beanie and sandals.

Vanessa Hudgens appeared to be missing her long, dark mane when she stepped out in California this weekend.
The 22-year-old recently chopped her hair off, opting for a shorter cropped hairdo.

But over the weekend she was pictured going about her daily business with what was clearly a wig attached to her head.

The new look could well have been in aid of a fancy dress party, that's judging by the rest of her ensemble which included beads on her face and an abundance of rings and bangles.

Vanessa recently admitted that she feels like a 'soccer mom' with her newly cropped mop.

She told Access Hollywood: 'Honestly, I kind of feel like a soccer mom, but we're going to let that go. There's nothing wrong with soccer moms, but I'm only 22! I miss [my hair,] believe me, I do, but there's nothing I can do about it.'

Vanessa also appears to be embracing her wild side now she's out of her teens.

The actress has been chipping away at her good girl image in recent years with increasingly daring outfits.

And she unleashed her inner beast by wearing a leopard print mini dress while out and about with a friend in Los Angeles.

The High School Musical star completed her barely there outfit with a towering pair of chunky heels, a large shoulder bag and an unusual chainmail accessory on her left hand and carrying a green army style jacket in her right hand.

Meanwhile her friend wore an equally short beige dress and matching boots.

Vanessa and her companion hit several shops on what was a typically sunny and warm day in LA.

Just a day earlier Vanessa was pictured with her sister, Stella, totally covered up for a spot of lunch at Studio City.

The duo dined at JinkyÌs Cafe in Studio City, with a group of friends and, according to witnesses, looked to be in good spirits laughing as they walked through the parking lot.

Stella wore a popular animal-inspired hat with ears while Vanessa covered her short cropped hairdo with a knit beanie.

She recently released a video via YouTube to thank all her Facebook fans - all 3,064,625 of them.

In the short clip she says: 'Hey Facebook friends! How you guys doing? I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the love and support and all your comments.

'I try to check in whenever I’m free - I’ve been so busy! But I just want to say thank you so much and God bless.'

Last week while cruising down La Cienega and Santa Monica, photographers caught the actress having a puff on a cigarette while in the passenger seat of a companion's car.

However, Vanessa was none too pleased at being caught having a cheeky puff and soon ditched the evidence before jumping out of her car in a loose fitting see-through grey dress and knee-high boots and allegedly asking photographers to hand over their film.

She trained solidly for six days a week so she could convince everyone she could 'kick butt' for her role in Captain America.

And Hayley Atwell, who plays Chris Evans' leading lady in the comic book movie, did just that at the film's premiere in Los Angeles Last Night.

The 29-year-old actress poured her curves into a plunging three-quarter-length red dress for the event as she posed with her co-star.

Duchess actress Hayley plays the part of freedom fighter Peggy Carter in World War II set movie, Captain America: The First Avenger.

Speaking about her role during filming, she said: 'I'm training at the moment six days a week to make her a bit more military and make it convincing that I could kick butt.'

She said of the character: 'She can do everything Captain America can do, but backwards and in high heels.

'She's an English soldier through and through, although she always looks fabulous.'

Captain America tells the story of a scrawny, bullied orphan named Steve Rogers who is chosen for a top secret government project during World War II in which he becomes a test subject for a super serum.

The serum transforms him into a strong and able soldier named Captain America, and he leads the U.S. Army in its fight against the Nazis.

Evans, who plays the title character in Friday's release of the movie, put on 15 lbs of muscle to play the role.

The film also stars Dominic Cooper (as Howard Stark) and Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury).

Other celebs who came out in support of the movie included High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens, who looked stunning in a plunging gold dress.

Today Presenter Maria Menunos was also on hand in a form-fitting patterned dress while Avatar actress Zoe Saldana put her legs on show in short shorts and a matching jacket.

Having literally built Evans into what the film's director Joe Johnston called 'the perfect human specimen,' the movie makers had to figure out how the 6ft tall actor with the muscled-up physique could convincingly portray the pre-serum Steve Rogers, a scrawny kid of a mere 90-something lbs.

One option for was to superimpose Evans' head on a skinny body double, much like the technology employed by filmmaker David Fincher in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button when Brad Pitt had to age backward.

There was no way to take a year off because its backers at Marvel Studios have been on a tight schedule rolling out their superheroes one by one - including the recent Thor - so audiences will be familiar with most of them when they join forces in next summer's The Avengers.

'Chris moves in such a unique way; he doesn't move like anybody else,' Johnston told Reuters.

'The body double could not move like him. As hard as he tried to watch Chris and duplicate the movements, it just wasn't the same.'

That was perfectly fine with Evans, who was not keen on having another actor involved in creating the iconic role.

'The beginning part of the movie is so crucial to get the audience invested in who Steve is, I didn't want to share that part of the performance with another actor,' Evans, 30, told Reuters. 'I talked to Joe about it and thankfully, he agreed.'

Instead of the body double/superimposed head, the filmmakers used a 'shrinking' technique and computers to basically erase portions of Evans' strong physique on screen.

'We filmed over 250 shots of Chris and used digital technology to 'shrink' him down to what we called 'Skinny Steve,' Johnston explained.

'It's pretty amazing,' added Evans. 'They took shape out of my jaw line, they shrunk my skeleton and they made my shoulders less broad.'

We are used to seeing her looking red carpet ready in a series of glamorous outfits and perfect makeup.

But with her unflattering haircut, facial piercings and shapeless outfit, Vanessa Hudgens looked nothing like her usual stunning self.

In fact, the 22-year-old actress had undergone a dramatically dowdy makeover for her new movie Gimme Shelter.

The photographs show the star wearing a shapeless grey hooded top over a black T-shirt and baggy faded black jeans and trainers.
Her usually groomed black hair was short and scruffy and she sported a tattoo on her neck and a lip and nose piercing.

Commenting on the striking photographs on her Facebook page, Vanessa wrote: 'Hey guys, what's happenin? I have been so stupidly busy working on Gimme Shelter.

The new movie, which will be released next year, sees Vanessa take a more gritty direction than her High School Musical fans are used to.

The film sees Vanessa play a pregnant teenager who seeks out her biological father after leaving her abusive mother's home.

'I had such a great time shooting the Candie’s campaign, it’s all about having fun and learning life lessons according to Candie’s,' she said.

'I love Candie’s because they have so many great pieces you can mix into your wardrobe. My style is very similar to the Candie’s girl style in a sense where we just want to have fun.'

The campaign creative also showcases a series of 'Candie’s-ism’s', a code which Candie’s girls live by.'
