News of their relationship managed to surprise many in the anything goes world of showbiz. But while Katy admits that her once debauched husband was once basically 'addicted to all things bad' and now is not.
There's one aspect of the flamboyant star she can't quite cure - his flirtatiousness.
Katy has been married to Brand for six months and said she works hard at her marriage before she gushed about her husband, describing him as 'thought-provoking, articulate' and her 'perfect match'.
But she said she has to scold him when he flirts with her mother over email and added: 'It's totally inappropriate and I tell him to stop.'
Glamorous: Katy Perry adopts an Elizabeth Taylor-inspired look as she goes back to the 50s for one of the ghd limited edition sets
'He's very charming with my parents and he has an ongoing email love letter with my mum, and she loves it. It's totally inappropriate and I have to tell him to stop.'
Katy admits she knew all about his chequered past: 'He was a heroin addict and now he's not. He was addicted to all kinds of things and now he's not.
'So he's an extremist, which can be both good and bad.'
She said she would love to have children with him one day, a sentiment her husband agrees with.

Brand said he jumped at the chance to voice the character as it would give him 'a good opportunity to have a proper knees-up, a right old rollicking laugh.'

In another shot, she adopts a softer look as she goes all 1950s glamour in a pretty peach chiffon dress, as she lounges on a satin quit-covered bed, her hair curled tightly into an Elizabeth Taylor-inspired do.
The campaign was shot by world renowned photographer David LaChapelle and Katy said she had been very 'excited' to do the shoot.
She said: 'I'm so excited to be working with ghd, especially using their tools on my California Dreams Tour to get me stage ready.'
Looking forward to parenthood: Katy and Russell, seen here leaving their New York apartment last week, have both said they would like to have children
