Just hours before, she joined her husband for a Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace with the Queen.

But it was just the young royal set at the Sun Military Awards tonight.

The Duchess of Cambridge was the belle of the ball in a strapless black velvet dress as she walked the red carpet with her husband Prince William, who looked dapper in black tie.

Prince Harry was two steps behind his older brother at London's Imperial War Museum, also donning a suit.

Kate's black Alexander McQueen gown - the same designer as her wedding dress - had frill trim around the bust and a fishtail-style skirt.

It was so long on the five-foot, 10-inch Duchess, that she had to keep hitching it up to keep it from scraping on the ground.

Kate was still sporting the 'Scousebrow' - thick eyebrows made famous by the Liverpudlian show, Desperate Scousewives.
And she donned her trademark thick black eyeliner around her green eyes.
A lashing of light pink lipstick and her look was complete.

Among the celebrity guests was David Beckham and his two eldest boys Brooklyn,12, and Romeo, nine.

The trio - looking dapper in suits - looked as though they had caught up on sleep after flying in from Los Angeles this morning with the rest of the family.

Speaking at a Downing Street reception, the Prime Minister and Deputy PM Nick Clegg joined forces to heap praise on the 'Herculean bravery' of the phenomenal men and women across the services.
More than 80 nominees and their partners packed into the historic No10 state room where the politicians mingled with the guests.
Among those invited was Sergeant Duncan Slater, 32, and his wife Kim, reported the Sun.
The soldier was blasted 30ft from his vehicle by a Taliban bomb, breaking several bones in his body — including his back.
Last year Sgt Slater chose to have both legs removed when the breaks did not heal but went on to cycle the length of Britain in aid of his wounded comrades.
Mr Cameron said at the event: 'I think the Military Awards is now a really brilliant event in the annual calendar — it's an opportunity for the whole country to say a very big thank you to people who've shown enormous bravery and courage in our Armed Services.
'So it's a delight to have you here at lunchtime at No10 Downing Street.
'We have a lot of parties here at No10 — for all sorts of charities and organisations — but I can't think of a more deserving group of people to come and have something to drink, eat and celebrate with today.'
Mr Clegg said: 'You shouldn't just be proud of the servicemen and women with you in your work, and you shouldn't just be proud on behalf of your families and communities but I hope you do also know that you make the whole nation very, very proud indeed.'

It's a Hollywood ending for Beckham as he brings five-year career in LA to a glorious end by lifting MLS Cup

  • 'Whether I stay or not I've had an amazing five years'

David Beckham got his Hollywood happy ending tonight with a scene-stealing performance to secure the MLS Cup for L.A Galaxy in his last game for the team.

It's also likely to be the former England captain's final match in America, with a move to Europe and many suspect the next stop will be Paris.

So it was all set up to be a perfect farewell, if Galaxy could defeat Houston Dynamo. But Goldenballs was never going to leave that to chance.

With team-mate Robbie Keane, the 36-year-old set up Landon Donovan for the only goal in Sunday's final that won Beckham's first silverware in America since his arrival five years ago.

And he did it front of over 31,000 fanatical MLS fans at their Home Deport stadium in Carson.

He has been linked with a move to wealthy Paris St-Germain and said: 'Whether I stay or not, I've had an amazing five years.

'People were talking about if we didn't win it was going to be a disappointment and an unsuccessful five years. It's quietened a few people which is always nice.'

He added: 'I've loved it here. The fans have been unbelievable - the owners, the players, every one of them are heroes. They've been incredible all season and this has capped it off.

GLITTERING CAREER OF GOLDENBALLS

David Beckham, reportedly worth £125 million, has had a trophy-laden career since he burst into the Manchester United team as a teenager.
He won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League in 1999 before leaving the reds for Real Madrid in 2003.
He was captain of England and earned his much-heralded 100th cap against France in 2008.
In his fourth and final season at the Bernabeu he won his only La Liga title before signing for LA Galaxy in a £30 million five-year deal.

'I've said that all along, it doesn't matter what happens at the end of the season.

'I need to sit back, relax and enjoy this moment. I might talk in the the past tense but that doesn't mean I am not coming back.'

Beckham, who played the full game despite suffering a hamstring problem in training last week, joined Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007.

Galaxy supporters sang, 'We want Beckham' after seeing their team win a first title since 2005.

Team Beckham were present en masse, with Victoria, 37 , leading the cheers with their children Brooklyn, twelve, Romeo, nine , Cruz, six , and baby Harper, who is just four months old.

Victoria looked stressed as she watched the match intently, obviously urging her beloved on to achieve the perfect note with which to sign off.

It's the first memory like this for Romeo and Cruz, certainly, and Brooklyn was just seven years old when the family moved across the Atlantic.

The couple, who will return to their Hertfordshire home for Christmas, are due to announce the decision before Beckham’s five-year deal with LA Galaxy ends on December 31.

He will take part in the club's tour of Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia, which starts next week.

‘David is all geared up for the cup final but after that he and Victoria will make the decision over whether or not to accept the Paris deal,’ a source close to the football star says.

‘Once the last match is out of the way, talks will ensue with his management and I suspect they will move very quickly.’
The former Manchester United man moved to LA from Real following his resignation as England captain after the 2006 World Cup. He signed a deal worth almost £6 million a year.
Beckham has made 26 appearances for Galaxy this season, a campaign that has seen a seven per cent increase in attendances across the MLS.
With Beckham in the side, Galaxy reached the final of the MLS play-offs in 2009, the semi-finals in 2010 and met Houston Dynamo in this year's final.
League games will be broadcast on the high-profile NBC Sports television network for the first time next season, while Galaxy have just secured a $55m deal with Time Warner Cable Sports.
The chief of Major League Soccer, Don Garber admitted that at times he regretted the hype of Beckham's arrival, but not the excitement he generated

He said:'He's been great for our league and for our game. I find it amusing that when David came in many sports media pundits were saying how much he's over the hill, you don't hear that any more, and this is five years later.

'I underestimated the power of his celebrity by a long shot. I totally underestimated how hardworking and tough he is. He will play through injury and fatigue.

'That warrior-like mentality was like nobody expected in MLS.'

They joked last year that they were girlfriend and boyfriend before despite the 13 year age gap - and Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian were reunited last night.

However, in a neat twist, it now appears that the pair are in the business of matchmaking for other people.

Kim, 30, and Justin, 17, were back together at the Do Something Awards last night and were pictured having fun together.

However, it seemed the pair truly did have ulterior motives, with Kim tweeting afterwards: 'At awards w @JustinBieber! Just met his friend, wonder if that's who he wants 2 set Kendall (half sister Kendall Jenner) up w LOL'

Last year, the pair declared their love for each other in a series of jokey Tweets after meeting at the White House Correspondents Dinner in May.

They then went on to shoot an ad campaign together in the Bahamas then did a 'Mrs Robinson' style photoshoot for Elle magazine - causing uproar amongst the teen's fans, the Beliebers.

However, Kim is now happily spoken for, and is tying the knot next week with Kris Humphries, while Justin is dating Disney star Selena Gomez.

Kim had taken time out from her hectic wedding preparations to squeeze in her appearance at the Do Something Awards and poured her curves into a form-fitting white gown.

She shared the spotlight with former Disney star Demi Lovato, who also went for the same colour scheme as Kim.

But while Kim put in a rather demure turn in her floor-length outfit, Demi put her flesh very much on show in her short and low-cut design.

The duo posed together at the Los Angeles event, before making their way inside the Hollywood Palladium.

Later Demi took to the stage to perform, transforming into a full-length ensemble, while Kim made an on-stage appearance and mingled with the fellow guests, including Justin Bieber.

Other stars in attendance included model Tyra Banks, who also had her photograph taken, and Kristen Bell, who brought along her husband Dax Shepard.

Bell, 31, dazzled as she made her arrival in a short asymmetrical gown and smooched before the cameras with Dax.

She is also one of the guest presenters of the night with main hosting duties going to Glee star Jane Lynch, who was at the helm last year too.

Kristen was also in the running for the Do Something Movie Star honours, competing against Orlando Bloom, Kathy Griffin, Scarlett Johansson, Daniel Radcliffe and Olivia Wilde.

But it was Wilde who bagged the award, arriving on stage in an odd-looking pleated dress with a slit right down the centre around her chest.

David Beckham - who looked dapper in a black suit and was joined by son Brooklyn, picked up the athlete gong and was presented with it by his friend, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

And Beiber won in the singer category, collecting his trophy onstage in a pair of standout gold jeans and a black T-shirt.
