Just hours before, she joined her husband for a Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace with the Queen.

But it was just the young royal set at the Sun Military Awards tonight.

The Duchess of Cambridge was the belle of the ball in a strapless black velvet dress as she walked the red carpet with her husband Prince William, who looked dapper in black tie.

Prince Harry was two steps behind his older brother at London's Imperial War Museum, also donning a suit.

Kate's black Alexander McQueen gown - the same designer as her wedding dress - had frill trim around the bust and a fishtail-style skirt.

It was so long on the five-foot, 10-inch Duchess, that she had to keep hitching it up to keep it from scraping on the ground.

Kate was still sporting the 'Scousebrow' - thick eyebrows made famous by the Liverpudlian show, Desperate Scousewives.
And she donned her trademark thick black eyeliner around her green eyes.
A lashing of light pink lipstick and her look was complete.

Among the celebrity guests was David Beckham and his two eldest boys Brooklyn,12, and Romeo, nine.

The trio - looking dapper in suits - looked as though they had caught up on sleep after flying in from Los Angeles this morning with the rest of the family.

Speaking at a Downing Street reception, the Prime Minister and Deputy PM Nick Clegg joined forces to heap praise on the 'Herculean bravery' of the phenomenal men and women across the services.
More than 80 nominees and their partners packed into the historic No10 state room where the politicians mingled with the guests.
Among those invited was Sergeant Duncan Slater, 32, and his wife Kim, reported the Sun.
The soldier was blasted 30ft from his vehicle by a Taliban bomb, breaking several bones in his body — including his back.
Last year Sgt Slater chose to have both legs removed when the breaks did not heal but went on to cycle the length of Britain in aid of his wounded comrades.
Mr Cameron said at the event: 'I think the Military Awards is now a really brilliant event in the annual calendar — it's an opportunity for the whole country to say a very big thank you to people who've shown enormous bravery and courage in our Armed Services.
'So it's a delight to have you here at lunchtime at No10 Downing Street.
'We have a lot of parties here at No10 — for all sorts of charities and organisations — but I can't think of a more deserving group of people to come and have something to drink, eat and celebrate with today.'
Mr Clegg said: 'You shouldn't just be proud of the servicemen and women with you in your work, and you shouldn't just be proud on behalf of your families and communities but I hope you do also know that you make the whole nation very, very proud indeed.'

So now we know who'll be wearing Myleene's white bikini! Jessica Jane Clement arrives Down Under for I'm A Celebrity

At just 26, Jessica Jane Clement is guaranteed to be this year's eye candy on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The Real Hustle star is the youngest, and most attractive, of all her competitors - with Fatima Whitbread the closest female to her age at 51.

Other members of the fairer sex include Crissy Rock, 53, Lorraine Chase, 60, and 69-year-old Stefanie Powers.

The real question on everyone's lips is if the brunette beauty will take inspiration from Myleene Klass, who wowed the male population in a skimpy white bikini during her iconic shower scene in 2006.

Clement is naturally graceful even without wearing her swimwear, showing off a perfectly trim figure as she arrived at Brisbane Airport.

The young star elevated her height in a pair of wedges, wearing skintight jeans and a black vest top beneath a billowing shawl.

Before it was revealed she was taking part, Clement appeared to trick fans on Twitter, implying she would still be in the UK next week instead of Oz.

She said: 'Sheffield next week!! Woop Woop!! Missed my mum & dad!!'

But fiancé Lee Stafford confirmed his other half had arrived safely, tweeting: 'Just got a call from Jess, she's safe and sound in sunshine.'

Clement rose to fame in BBC Three's The Real Hustle, later securing her role as Cindi Marshall in Sky series Dream Team.

She also starred alongside Danny Dyer in 2009's Doghouse and featured on hospital drama Casualty, playing paramedic crew member Jackie.

Her enviable figure comes from her performing arts background and starring in various music videos, including Craig David's All the Way.

She has also dabbled with glamour modelling, posing for Playboy at just 18 and since appearing in several men's magazines.

Fellow contestants Mark Wright and Dougie Poynter will need to keep their hands to themselves as Jessica is engaged to hairdresser Stafford, 45.

Woman of the hour! Pregnant Amanda Holden is the Ultimate Theatre Star at the Cosmopolitan Awards

It's never too early in the party season to don a bit of festive sparkle.

And Amanda Holden certainly didn't hold back in a brilliant gold ensemble for tonight's Cosmopolitan Ultimate Woman Awards.

The 40-year-old presenter looked stunning in a fitted gold dress, making no secret of her growing baby bump.

And it certainly turned out to be her night, as she picked up the award for Ultimate Theatre Star.

Amanda looked gorgeous as she proudly showed off her award, accentuating her still-slim legs with a towering pair of gold heels.

Meanwhile Blondie singer Debbie Harry picked up the Award for Ultimate Icon, which she proudly displayed standing next to fellow pop star Kylie Minogue.

Unfortunately Debbie appeared to have lost some of her iconic fashion sense, as she looked odd in a floor length black dress covered in lace, accessorised with long black gloves.

Kirstin Hallenga won the award for Ultimate Campaigner, while Nicole Campbell was voted the Ultimate Survivor.

Also on the red carpet for the Cosmopolitan even was X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, in a one-shoulder red dress.
Though the one-sided sleeve looked a little bulky, which was slightly unflattering, the star looked great with her hair in a side bun.
She had an extra reason to smile tonight, as she paid a visit to the dentist earlier today and appears to have had her teeth whitened, with the result putting Simon Cowell's veneers to shame.
The N-Dubz singer was spied visiting a dental practice, and looked eager to flash her dazzling grin as she left the Mayfair Hotel earlier this evening.

Also in attendance was her co-panelist Kelly Rowland- though the pair steered clear of each other on the red carpet.
Kelly appeared fully recovered from the throat infection which saw her miss last week's show, in a floor length hot pink dress.
The Destiny's Child star brought along her X Factor contestants Janet Devlin and Misha B.

Meanwhile Fearne Cotton looked very slim indeed in a short white dress with lacy sleeves.

The presenter and designer showed off her slender legs, and exposed the star tattoo on her right foot.

Abbey Clancey showed up in a very strange turquoise dress with a cutaway section above the chest and heavy eyeliner.

Like Tulisa, Strictly star Holly Valance opted for a one-shoulder look, though she chose a floor-length black gown- complete with 'Come Dancing-style sequins.

Amanda appears to be relishing her pregnancy, looking radiant as she shows off her ever-expanding figure.

But while Amanda highlighted her growing figure in her tight dress tonight, she took to Twitter earlier this week to tell fans Chris has come up with a less than flattering nickname for her.

Tweeting a picture of the Mr Men's Mr Greedy, Amanda wrote: 'Chrispy says I am starting to look like this!

Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda revealed in August that she and Chris were expecting again after tragically losing a baby boy last year.

The pair are already parents to five-year-old daughter Lexi.

And she has told how she is convinced this pregnancy will be positive.

She said: 'This time I just know everything is going to be fine.

'Even Chris, who usually says ‘I hope so’ when I ask for reassurance, now says “I know so”.’
