Earlier this year she revealed that she has body dysmorphic disorder, and rarely looked at herself in the mirror.

Now actress and mother-of-one Sarah Michelle Gellar has told that she doesn't own weight scales in her home.

In a new interview with Self magazine, the 34-year-old Ringer star says she doesn't assess her weight by numbers, rather by how her clothes fit.

'You can't live your life by the scale. We don't even have one in our house. I've never believed in them, because your weight fluctuates,' she told the magazine.

'It's more about how my clothing fits than a number.'

'Besides, if you deny yourself everything because you're so focused on the mirror or the scale, then when do you get to enjoy life?'

Looking super slim in a sparkling gold mini skirt and metallic off-the-shoulder sweater on the December cover, Gellar says she eats cake and and works out less than five days a week.

'I still work out, but not five days a week. I do Pilates, I run on the treadmill, I walk to the soundstage rather than taking the cart,' she says.

'I wish I could say I was in the best shape of my life right now, but I don't put the same pressure on myself that I used to. So I don't rock a bikini on Wilshire Boulevard... but I don't know many people who do!'

The actress, who has been married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr and gave birth to their daughter Charlotte Grace two years ago, admits that she has found it difficult to have her figure constantly analysed by the media.

'If you wear one bulky sweater, you're pregnant or you're fat. When you're 5-foot-4 like me, any weight gain can look like a lot,' she says.

'People dissect you for 2 pounds. That can be incredibly difficult, but I don't take it as personally anymore.'

She says these days her main concern is her well-being.

'I care only that I'm healthy,' she says. 'Besides, I'm not an actor who is known for her body necessarily. I hope I have a few other things going for me!'

Although the actress is currently busy working on her successful TV drama, she says little Charlotte is still her number one priority.

'My perspective on work has changed: Work doesn't define who I am,' she says.

'I love what I do, but I don't feel a burning pressure anymore. And because I'm working for fun, I get to enjoy it!'

Back in September, Gellar revealed to Health magazine that she believed she suffered from body dysmorphic disorder - a type of mental illness, where one is concerned with body image.

I’m a female! I totally have body dysmorphic disorder,' she said. 'I think most women do.'

'A make-up artist friend once said "I don’t think I’ve ever seen you look in a mirror." I’m surrounded by them all the time - you sit in hair and make-up - so I guess I just have this mechanism where I tune it out.'

'So every once in a while, I’ll look and I’ll be like, "Wait, that’s what I look like?"' she adds. 'I just have to remember that I’m human, and I’m a mom.

'Being a parent changes the vanity at least a little bit. It has to. Your priorities are different.'

'Before I got pregnant I was in really, really good shape,' she recalled. 'I think when I was doing Buffy I was a little bit thin, actually, because even though I was working out constantly, it was just the time and the age.

'But I was happy being pregnant, too. I’m not as critical as I used to be about my body.'

The star also recalled how she went into labour while in a Pilates gym.

'It was funny, too, because I was getting cranky, and I said to my trainer, "I’m just cranky today." She was like, "Maybe it’s because you’re going to give birth!" And I was like, "Nah, not yet." It turned out I was in labour, I didn’t realise.'

And as for the secret of her nine year marriage to Prinze Jr, who she met on the 1997 set of film I Know What You Did Last Summer, she said it's all about communication.

'That’s my secret,' she says. 'It’s not a secret, but it’s how I handle all my good relationships, whether they’re male-female or not. If you bottle things up, it explodes on you.
