Former world gymnastics champion Beth Tweddle missed out on a medal in the floor exercises on the final day of the World Championships in Tokyo.
It was the only individual event for which she qualified but a score of 14.500 points was only enough for seventh place at her last worlds before her post-Olympic retirement next year.
No joy: Beth Tweddle struggled to a seventh place finish
It left the British team with just one medal, the bronze won by Louis Smith on the pommel horse. Smith elected for the most difficult routine possible as a dress rehearsal for London, did it well but fell near the end.
‘I needed to do it in a pressure situation before the Olympics. A bronze meant the hard work has paid off,’ he said.
Mo Farah, now training in Oregon, could not collect his European Athlete of the Year award from Lord Coe but sent a video message.
